Orca Concerts presents American Quintets, featuring musicians who have performed with the Seattle Symphony, Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, and more. Program: Samuel Barber - Summer Music John Steinmetz - Quintet Sean Osborn - Preuldes and Counterpoints Samuel Barber's "Summer Music" is a masterpiece, evoking the lazy heat of summer as well as the delightful play of the season. John Steinmetz's 1984 "Quintet" is played in one continuous movements changing from Gregorian Chant, through the Rennaisance, and beyond, always descriptive and engaging. Sean Osborn's new composition, "Preludes and Counterpoints," takes its inspiration from Debussy's and Bach's similar collections with Preludes about machinery, political discourse, and romance, and Counterpoints that include a Triple Fugue, Chaconne, and Time Canon.
