SASS is proud to be opening our 17-18 season with a recital featuring vocal works by celebrated Seattle composer Bern Herbolsheimer. He received recognition throughout the United States and Europe for over 500 works ranging from ballet to symphonic, operatic, chamber and choral works. Herbolsheimer served on the music faculty of Seattle's Cornish College, and the University of Washington, where he taught graduate classes in the voice program. At the end of the 2000–2001 school year he was selected as the Outstanding Teacher of Music at Cornish College. The program will include works by composers that influenced Bern and pieces that paint a picture of his life as well as his own works “Ephemeron” sung by soprano Erica Row, “A Lady in Waiting” sung by mezzo-soprano Julia Benzinger, and a selection of songs from American Folk Song Settings sung by tenor John Marzano. Pianist Christina Siemens, will be collaborating with each singer.
